Charity Update from our last Secret Vintage do in Stamford!

Secret Vintage Event raises £200 for local Evergreen Charity!

A charity which supports the Elderly in Stamford and surrounding areas has benefitted from almost £200 raised by us at our inaugural event on the Cambridgeshire/Lincolnshire Border.

The last Secret event was held on Saturday 20th September at the Stamford Arts Centre, and hosted a wealth of vintage, retro and handmade traders, alongside a professional swing DJ Pinball Paul, a live Singer Kathryn Peacock, covering well loved vintage and retro songs from the Silver Screen, and live Lindy Hop dancers too! Despite the event location only being revealed a few weeks beforehand, the event attracted over 500 people through its doors, and was so busy the onsite tea rooms provided by the Stamford arts Centre Coffee shop ran out of cake!

As all good Secret Vintage Fair fans know, The Vintage Fairs, are held in different ‘secret’ locations each time, and support a different local charity too. Founded in Essex in 2012, the events are now expanding to cover Cambridgeshire, Northampton and Lincolnshire, and since its inception, The Secret Vintage Fair has raised over £4500 for a variety of charities.

Founder Lucy, together with her colleague Charlie Stone, chose to support Evergreen Care Trust this time around as it was aptly in keeping with the Stamford location.

Lucy said:  “There is still a huge affection from younger vintage lovers to celebrate the 1930s, 40s and 50s, by wearing clothing from the era, listening to music of the time, and we’re now seeing a soaring trend with teens and adults alike learning swing dances like the Lindyhop, and so the tie-in with the Evergreen Charity was brilliant, as they care for the generation who of course grew up in those eras and had first hand experience of it all!”

Suzanne Wheatley, chief operations officer for the trust is thrilled that the Secret Vintage Fair team chose Evergreen as their chosen charity for their September fair. "It's an exciting concept and we were so pleased to benefit  from such a glorious day of unique shopping entertainment and treats. We’re so grateful to all the prizes kindly donated by stallholders and of course to the Secret Vintage Team!”

The team from the Sue Ryder Charity shop in Peterborough also had a stall and raised over £700 for the charity, which is fantastic and helps towards the £6million they need to raise to get their new hospice built at Thorpe Hall! We are thrilled for them.
